It is no secret that Base was incubated by Coinbase, and apparently it was all apart of a ‘secret master plan’ Coinbase CEO, Brain Armstrong’s came up with in 2016 for the fourth phase of the company's development, where decentralised apps would become the focus and be aimed at reaching one billion people.
This meant Base has had the crème de la crème of Coinbase engineers working on the L2, and leading the whole squad of their engineers was Jesse Pollak who is a Coinbase company man through and through.
Jesse has been at Coinbase for 6 and half years now, starting as an Engineering Manager, managing just a 7 person crew to becoming Senior Director of Engineering and managing over 175 engineers. Coinbase has had immense financial success and getting listed on the stock market was an amazing milestone to achieve. Jesse definitely helped play a pivotal part in making these things possible by onboarding engineers, managing them effectively and making them successful, while also tackling technology challenges such as onboarding more users and maintaining the company’s website.
In 2021 Jesse left managing teams of engineers and focused on leading Coinbase’s efforts to build, support and integrate protocols into Coinbase products - this really set the stage for him to create and execute the Base platform as we all now know it. Overall the team and resources Base has behind it are one of the strongest aspects to this project and is what really gives Base an edge over other L2 competitors. It is also being led by a very competent person in Jesse Pollak who has the experience managing teams of incredible engineers and also has immense knowledge of blockchain protocols.
