The three masterminds who are behind creating, building and currently running Nexo are Antoni Trenchev (CEO), Georgi Shulev (COO) and Kosta Kantchev (CTO). All are Bulgarian entrepreneurs and are clearly smart people as Antoni and Georgi studied at Oxford University with Kosta bringing the technical attributes to the team studying his degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Technical University of Sofia. Georgi is also the son of former deputy Bulgarian prime minister Lydia Shuleva, not a bad connection to have in your back pocket!
Kosta and Antoni had previously already worked together on two other successful businesses called 7marketz, an online marketing agency focused on the financial industry and Dalliance Capital an investment firm that specialises in blockchain technology proving these two already work very well together as a team.
Prior to creating Nexo, Antoni worked as a Member of the Bulgarian Parliament, as well as a consultant for a number of financial institutions and Georgi worked in finance at a number of companies, including Ernst & Young and Raiffeisen Bank, giving them both their expertise in finance and business to help execute the Nexo business model and providing them the connections they needed to navigate through the financial legislation the company had to battle through when forming. Kantchev worked as a software engineer and consultant for high profile companies such as IBM, Hewlett Packard, and VMware.
However even though the team seems to have the right chemistry and expertise they needed to pull off their vision they are not without a bit of controversy. Earlier this year in 2023 the company's head office in Sofia was raided and the company was charged with money laundering, tax crimes and computer fraud by the Bulgarian government.
