Very exiting project. This was introduced by "Shoe" (who also introduced Kaspa to Cyrator). He calls Kaspa "Bitcoin 2.0" and Taraxa (TARA) "Ethereum 2.0".

The reason is that while Kaspa (KAS) invested the blockDAG protocol, Taraxa (TARA) is using blockDAG as well, but with native smart contracts and proof of stake instead of proof of work (as far as I understood correctly).

To put it in perspective: So far, all layer ones were block-CHAINS (or DAGs), which means one block is produced after another and there's always a hard coded time delay between each block. This design makes it very difficult to scale (Taraxa's founder Steven Pu explains this very well in his short explainer series). Block-DAGs don't have a hard coded delay, meaning miners don't have to wait for a block to finish and can therefore work on various blocks simultaneously. So the network can scale much faster with the same amount of miners.

I think there's a good chance that BlockDAGs will revolutionize the industry with Kaspa and Taraxa being just the first two projects of many more to come.

Disclaimer: I hold both these projects and will be following them closely. I'll also be looking out for new projects that implement and improve upon the blockDAG technology.

I highly recommend watching the short 5 series explainer videos by Taraxa Founder Steven Pu. Show Less
