Filecoin was created with the aim to decentralise the Internet and primarily acts as a storage service, providing data retrieval and computation power for users; currently a large bulk being institutions and developers such as OpenSea, Starling Labs and Internet Archive.

The launch of FVM in April allows the network to open up smart contract capabilities, extensively expanding their service capabilities such as creating Data DAOs and decentralised computation over data stored, as well as possibly creating storage insurance and other DeFi services.

With over 500 projects building on Filecoin and supporting diverse use cases from Gaming to Audio streaming, I feel that providing access to decentralised storage but still being able to onboard large amounts of data is especially important with the current space being very centralised (AWS, GCloud, Azure).

4 stars instead of 5 as Filecoin definitely has room to bridge the gap and become more accessible for everyday users. Show Less
