As far as the crypto gaming market goes, only AAA games have a real chance of succeeding in the long run. The gaming market is a long tail market meaning only a small fraction of games generate most of the worldwide revenues, some games even have 100,000,000 daily active users, which can generate hundreds of millions to billions in certain cases. Illuvium has more than $50M budget with a solide team of game developers enabling them to be a AAA contender. The only drawback is the gameplay, having played the closed beta, I was a bit overwhelmed with the amount of possibilities when fighting other teams. To make things worst, the aut0-battler prevent the player to really learn the various moves of the different monsters, so the learning curve is really bad to master.

On the other hand, the executive team mentioned a lot they would do everything they can to prevent pay-to-win, which is the worst that could happen to a play-to-earn game. Ideally, high spenders should be unprofitable, and playing should be about the enjoyment itself, while other players could in theory be able to earn more than they spend, but the economy has to be balanced, and the team seems to be taking every precautions in this regard.
