This is just another purely profit-driven project. First, if Vitalik is involved, you know it's shady. HUGE red flag there.
Second, the big clue that this is a project to primarily make money is the fact that this residency gives you KYC approval to the major exchanges. They don't give you any other benefits of the ID except exchange approval and earning referral fees. The cost is also pretty expensive, compared to other digital residency programs out there.
Finally, let's look at the phrase "sovereignty-backed." What does that even mean?
Sovereignty: Freedom from external control.
The ID doesn't help with sovereignty of the people who apply because they are applying for permission. Therefore, this is just a marketing buzz phrase.
There are several countries that have digital residency programs and I feel that this can be a good thing overall, both for the government issuing it and for entrepreneurs who might want to benefit from the laws in another location.
