We thought Arkham was controversial. Now enter Worldcoin. The more I read about this project the more irate I get about it. Yes, I know Sam Altman is behind it, the same Sam that went in front of the US Congress and pleaded for AI to be regulated. Through this project he is attempting to catalogue humans (by scanning their eyes) to set them apart from AI bots. So why am I irate? See below:
- TechCrunch has reported that hackers have stolen the credentials of several of its orb operators
- Worldcoin has confirmed reports that hundreds of iris codes have flooded the dark web, changing hands for cash
- Vitalik has said that users' phones could be hacked, putting their World ID at risk, and said - with just 1,500 orbs in circulation and many people in less developed countries not having a smartphone - billions will be cut off.
Speaking of less developed countries, Worldcoin has targeted lower income communities to scan their retinas in engage for crypto coins or Airpods. Many people are lured in by 'free money.' Meanwhile, the orb operators are paid pennies. Fair or not? Source Show Less
