Gala Games is upgrading its original Ethereum contract and replacing the $GALA token with a new version, $GALAV2, on May 15th. Their nodes are able to process 100 mil players so the games will have no problem with supporting, but getting people onto their chain is done through ETH mainnet and this will create a Big issue for mass adoption in the current state of the network and the fees that come with it. So moving towards their own chain and using the their own token for the gas fees seems like a very good option. Ronin has also picked this path and this is slowly paying off. In the long run it will improve the token price.
The new contract increases the security, governance, it gives a dynamic supply and more burn mechanics. The new contract has already been audited, to be able to get the airdrop your tokens need to be in your wallet and any tokens locked in staking contracts will need to take them out before the snapshot happens. You will receive the same amount of tokens in your wallet.
